Job Interviews are Like Dating

Has anyone else ever noticed that job interviews are a lot like dating?

I've been sending my resume to various places and I've gotten a few call backs, but I guess they don't like the answers that I give them. I don't believe in lying at job interviews - it just creates problems later on down the road. So, the number one question that I get asked is "do you see yourself being with the company for an extended period of time?" or "how long do you see yourself staying with the company?"

Now, I'm always confused by this question, because the last time I checked, I'm not a fortune teller nor do I have a magic crystal ball. The craziest part is that they ask this before they even interview you. How exactly am I supposed to answer this question? That's like someone setting you up on a blind date but telling you that you can't even meet the guy until you commit to a long-term relationship with him. Excuse me?! LOL. I just can't fathom the idea. My answer to the interviewers is always "I can't answer this question with any amount of certainty." I mean, if anyone says at this point "Sure, I'll work at your company indefinitely" they're lying! If you've never met anyone from the office, have never even stepped foot in the building, how would you know if it's a good fit? It just baffles my brain.

Then when you do get a face to face, it's always so awkward. Do you wait for them to ask the questions? Do you interject your own comments? Ugh.

I guess what I'm getting at is that while I've had call backs, none of them have been the right fit.

I do have an idea of what I'd like to do, but it's going to take some research before I know for sure. I'll keep you posted though ;)

  1. I HATE job interviews. I'm in a spot where i'm unhappy with my job and am ready to leave but am unsure how to convey that in a interview setting. Just wanna job that keeps me busy and content without pull my hair out stress. Good luck on your job hunt!
